Johnny Ramone's ghost speaking to those who should know better:
People back then were going on about Kennedy: “Oh, I really like this guy. He's so good looking .” This is how we're picking a President? If he's good looking?
If you're not interested in the Ramones (Fine. Just don't be interested in one of the most influential, and greatest band in the whole history of the whole world and beyond) then read the second part of the interview, starting with "You're sort of regarded as an oddity in the punk movement. A conservative Republican. Like a right-winger doesn't belong.". Yeah, I knew that would get your attention.

Pop culture these days is just a pathetic pool of politically correct, holier-than-thou conformists who fancy themselves as "rebels" when they are nothing but the voice of their masters. Quick! Someone slips into Johnny Ramone's torn jeans and sneakers, and beat on the brat(s) with a baseball bat!

You nail it, Frogman! Counter culture is conformism. What a sad assed state of affairs, indeed.

As for Barri and Michelle, they ain't all that hip. Just ask any brutha on the street.

Not every brother and sister see Barry and Michelle as "Black" (something only Black Americans can be) -- the term "bosco" came up a lot during conversations with my brothers and sisters this summer -- sadly, they seem to be a minority. I would note that most of these Black folks didn't aim to be "African American" or "Black" -- they just were themselves; I think that's a more mentally healthy way to be -- affectations can become addictions, and then you're trapped.

And the interview nailed it -- the punk subculture is full of motorheads, greasers, cowpunks, rockabillys; these folks are not granola munching lefties, and most of them are pretty patriotic. And creative -- the mainstream stuff is so very conformist; the real action was taking place in the little out of the way spots, the bars, the clubs. How did you know it was cool? Because it didn't try to be; it just was itself.

And the Ramones rock! Always did, always will -- they were great in concert too; I turned my kids on to them and a few others when they got to be older teens...hey kids, this stuff will blow the doors off 50 Cent, Justin Timberlake, and the Spice Girls...you know, the vanilla flavored crap your buddies are tuned in to...

Jane? Funny thing. I am Whitey McWhite from Whitesville, Whitestan. And I have been hearing much the same from my friends "of color", as Jesse would call them. Barri is faking it. Not just on one face, on all of them.

Have you seen the video of him bowing deeply and subserviently at the feet of the Crown of the House of Saud?

2hotel9 - I saw the bow. It made me ill. Call me an elitist, but I don't think the US president should be bowing to monarchs. There's just something weird, creepy and feudal about it. People at work told me that the president was just being respectful and I'm reading too much into it. I bet Sarkozy didn't bow to any monarchs. Looking forward to DF's take on the Obama visit to France...

p2, you are not an elitist. Look at the stink leftards have made about GWB holding hands and kissing cheek when he met the Crown of Saud. He met as an equal. As did William Jefferson Clinton, Bush1, Reagan, and even Jimah Cahter. Barri is the first US President, as far as I know, to ever place himself in the subservient to any royal, of any nationality. This is significant, and Barri damned well knows it.

Remember the stink during the - I think - 64 olympics, when Al Oerter refused to dip the American colors during the stadium entry parade like other countries? He was received back at Grumman Aviation (were he worked) as a hero for refusing to do so despite crying from the Democrats that he "embarrassed" the country by defying "protocol." I remember him saying during one of many interviews following the brouhaha, "the American flag is NEVER lowered for any country. At least not when I carry it."

Nor should any American official bow to any foreign leader. EVER. It's not a sign of disrespect to other countries - it's a sign of respect to OUR FLAG. Remember the words ... " ... and OUR FLAG was still there...."
