DISCLAIMER: in my experience, the following doesn't apply to 99% of my readership. Unfortunately, experience also shows it has to be written down for the remaining 1%.

The short version, when it comes to my comments policy, goes down to a line taken from the (mediocre) second opus of the Matrix:

Let's elaborate a bit:

  1. Try to stay on topic. If you have a beef against the cow-fart(1) induced climate change and this post is about monkey spanking(2), then it's not the place to draw your sword(3).
    I have nothing against a freewheeling conversation, but if it's off-topic AND stupid or offensive, then it will have a badly limited lifespan.
  2. Consider the two following statements…
    • I'm totally open-minded when it comes to rational ideas.
    • It is quite obvious that Anti-Americanism, anti-Semitism, Islamism, Nationalism, Racism, Collectivism(4) and Multiculturalism (non-exhaustive list) exist in complete contradiction with Reason.
    … And guess the total amount of tolerance you can expect from me if you indulge in any of these.
  3. If you shall persist in these ways nevertheless, understand that I'm not spending countless hours of work on this site to "reach out", "debate" with you, "understand" your "root causes" or "learn" about your religion. Unlike race, ideology is something we choose, and for which we must bear all responsibilities. I loathe your sick mindset and what you defend and promote. I've heard all your pitiful excuses for your despicable totalitarian psyche and your compulsion to coerce or enslave your fellow men and women in the name of some "greater good".
    So understand that this is not a public forum: it is my outpost in the culture war you wage against me, my kin, my rights and my freedom — thus, you will only be tolerated here, and only if I decide so. I call the shots and I owe you nothing. However, I tend to ignore them, so they may consider themselves lucky if they manage to draw some sarcasm in colorful language from me.
  5. Yeah, and don't get me started on journalists and the Wonderful World of Mainstream Media...
  6. American and British soldiers (including the Commonwealth) stand on a special pedestal in my personal pantheon. Disrespect them here, and you'll quickly wish you'd rather stand naked in Mecca during Hajj, wearing only a sign that reads "Muhammad was a pedophile".
  7. I may moderate, remove or edit anything and give neither excuses nor explanations. It has nothing to do with "censorship": I am not a State, you are not a coerced citizen of said State and so you are always free to express yourself on your own facility and by your own means. Commenting is not a right, it is a privilege I grant or take away, according to my right as the owner of this place.
  8. My site is not awfully biased: it's shamelessly opinioned. If you're on my side, you get my vote and are free to rant 'n' roll. If not, live with it or go rot in the gutter.

Élaborons un brin :

  1. Il existe une subtile différence entre "être familier" et "traiter familièrement". Cela signifie que les culs-sales qui s'imaginent débarquer ici et me tutoyer comme si nous avions gardé les piquets de grève ensemble verront leur contribution à la conversation éradiquée sans autre forme de procès. Quelle que soit la pertinence de ladite contribution. Même si vous n'êtes Vraiment Pas Content® avec ce que j'écris, cela ne vous dispense pas de surveiller vos manières : tant que je n'ai pas été présenté à votre chère Maman, nous nous vouvoierons. Vu ?
  2. Évitez le hors-sujet. Si vous avez une rancune à l'égard de l'impact des pets de vache sur le changement climatique et que cet article traite de la fessée de macaque(1), alors ce n'est pas l'endroit d'où lancer votre croisade (2).
    Je n'ai rien contre une conversation à bâtons rompus, mais si c'est hors-sujet ET stupide ou insultant, ça aura une durée de vie salement limitée.
  3. Considérez les deux affirmations suivantes...
    • J'ai une ouverture d'esprit totale en ce qui concerne toutes idées rationnelles.
    • Il est évident qu' Anti-américanisme, anti-Sémitisme, Islamisme, Nationalisme, Racisme, Collectivisme(3) et Multiculturalisme (liste non-exhaustive) existent en complète contradiction avec la Raison.
    ... Et tâchez de devinez la dose totale de tolérance que vous pouvez attendre de moi si vous cédez à l'une de ces sirènes.
  4. Si vous deviez cependant persister dans ces voies, comprenez que je ne dépense pas un nombre incalculable d'heures de travail sur ce site pour vous "tendre la main", "débattre" avec vous, "comprendre" vos "causes profondes" ou "apprendre à connaitre" votre religion. Contrairement à la race, l'idéologie est le résultat de nos choix, et nous devons en supporter l'entière responsabilité. J'abhorre votre mentalité tarée, et ce que vous défendez et promouvez. J'ai entendu toutes vos pitoyables excuses pour votre détestable psyché de totalitaire et votre compulsion à forcer et réduire vos semblables en esclavage au nom d'un quelconque "intérêt général".
    Comprenez donc que ceci n'est pas un forum publique : c'est mon avant-poste dans la guerre culturelle que vous lancez contre moi, mes semblables, mes droits et ma liberté — vous ne serez que toléré ici, et seulement si je le décide. Je tire les ficelles, et ne vous doit rien.   6. Ouais, et ne me lancez pas sur les journalistes et le Monde Merveilleux des Medias...
  7. Les soldats Américains et Britanniques (parmi lesquels j'inclue le Commonwealth) prennent place sur un piédestal particulier dans mon panthéon personnel. Manquez leur de respect ici, et vous souhaiterez rapidement vous trouver plutôt à la Mecque en période Hajj, tout nu avec seulement une pancarte autour du coup sur laquelle on puisse lire "Mahomet était un pédophile".
  8. Je peux modérer, supprimer ou éditer quoi que ce soit, sans fournir d'excuses ni d'explications. Cela n'a rien à voir avec de la “censure”, pour une raison très simple : je ne suis pas un État, vous n'êtes pas un citoyen opprimé dudit État et demeurez donc libre de vous exprimer sur votre propre support et par vos propres moyens. Commenter n'est pas un droit, c'est un privilège que j'accorde ou refuse selon mon droit de propriétaire des lieux.
  9. Mon site n'est pas affreusement partial, il est impudemment orienté. Si vous êtes de mon côté, vous avez mon aval et êtes libre de disserter à l'envi. Sinon, faites avec ou allez crever dans le caniveau.
  10. Oh, et si vous êtes végétarien, sachez que je chasse, tue, cuisine(6) et bouffe toutes sortes d'animaux, et que j'apprécie le tout sans aucune retenue. Soyez heureux avec vos carottes Docteur.

I’ve liked Alice Cooper for years, now even more.

There is no Washington Journal—only a moron would say that there was.  Or somebody pretty smart attempting to get folks to think he was a moron.  Either way, a very non-moron thing for him to say.

Dissident, j’adore Alice Cooper. Je crois néanmoins que sa vision des choses a changé - en bien mieux. En effet, je me souvient très bien d’avoir lu, dans les années 88 ou 92, dans un journal de hard rock français (HR magazine, Hard Force, ou peut être Metal Hammer) qu’il allait voter Bush (père). Mais il est vrai qu’il ne faisait pas de prosélytisme. Je préfère néanmoins le discours qu’il tient à présent, plus “libre penseur”, comme tu dis.

Fabrice, C’est là tout le propos en effet : il ne s’agit pas de savoir si les rock stars et autres saltimbanques peuvent avoir des opinions en politique comme tout un chacun (la réponse est évidemment oui), mais de bien établir une distinction entre opinion personnelle et prosélytisme, particulièrement lorsque les prosélytes sont loin d’être des lumières en la matière.

Et particulièrement lorsque, comme c’est le cas avec les artistes à qui les remarques d’Alice Cooper s’adressent, ils mettent leur renommée au service de leurs convictions… et au mépris de leur public, puisque rien, sinon leur arrogance et leur égocentrisme sans bornes, ne leur permet d’affirmer que tous leurs fans (qu’il s’agisse d’REM, de Bruce Springsteen ou des autres) sont anti-Bush.

Concernant Alice Cooper, je n’ai pas l’impression que ses positions aient fondamentalement changées, puisqu’il supporte Bush fils. Ce qui m’amène, en fait, à lui attribuer le titre de libre penseur, c’est plutôt le fait que dans un milieu incroyablement conformiste, celui des artistes—tant du show business que du cinéma (et en dépit des apparences qu’ils se donnent…)—des individus comme lui ne se sont jamais coulé dans le moule du zeitgeist.

Mes souvenirs d’ancien lecteur de Metal Hammer mais aussi d’abonné à Kerrang, me confirment d’ailleurs que c’était généralement le cas dans le genre musical auquel appartient Alice Cooper. J’ai comme l’impression qu’on ne naît pas social individualist, mais qu’on l’est devenu dans les années 80.

Je suis un junkie de cinéma et de musique, mais en dehors de leur art, je n’ai que peu de considérations pour les artistes. Posez n’importe quelle question à un Michael Stipes ou à un Bono (sans même parler de nos sous crétins néo-marxistes locaux du genre Manu Chao), et vous obtiendrez les même réponses superficielles et pré formatées du genre: “les pauvres pauvres sont si pauvres, c’est une horreur horrible.”

Ouais, maintenant sors de la piscine et passe moi la coke.

Quand au titre, merci. Je ne pouvais franchement pas le rater celui là. Marche pas trop en français, mais bon…

...et même minarchiste bien souvent ! je dis cela car sur le forum de liberaux.org, dont je m’occupe également, les minarchistes sont presque tous fans de metal, d’electro-goth ou de black, doom ou death. Et les membres des autres “tendances” du forum, rarement. J’ignore pourquoi. En ce qui me concerne, c’est vrai que cette musique individualiste que j’écoutais ado, a certainement eu une influence néfaste sur moi. Je crois bien qu’Eskoh ne me contredirait pas. Dissident, pendant que je te tiens, deux choses : 1. pourrais-tu référencer mon bloghttp://www.fabribet.com? Ce serait charmant de ta part. 2. Tu as déjà oeuvré pour Bureaucrash. J’ai pris contact avec Heather et Jason pour créer un bureaucrash en français, à la manière du bureaucrash en espagnol qui existe déjà (Pérou, Mexique). Serais-tu intéressé par la diffusion de visuels en français sur ce site ? ou par tout autre participation ? Je sais que ton temps est compté, je ne me formaliserai pas d’une réponse négative ;)

Why do we pay so much attention to celebrities?  Perhaps because in a republic we have no royals or aristocrats.  Nevertheless, I doubt I would care what a rock star thought about a Windows error message I keep getting, or about the funny thumping noise my car makes when I back up.  Why should I care what they think about politics?  Morons indeed!

I also think it’s silly that rock stars like Bruce Springsteen et all think they can open our eyes to all things political, lets just be thankful that the politicians don’t turn into rock stars!

Trouble is, what with the mass media being so partisan these days there are not many accessible sources of information any more where people can learn to make political judgements for themselves.

But anyway, more importantly, I wanted to say that I like your site design, I usually loathe Flash but I think you’ve integrated Flash elements really well in this case. I also think the side-by-side translations are an excellent idea. Do you write out each post yourself or do you use a translation service?

Mitch:  that funny thumping sound reminds me of several classic jokes, one of which is:  “What goes ‘thump-thump’?  Man running over a squirrel.  What goes ‘thump-thump, screech, thump-thump, screech, thump-thump’?  Man running over a lawyer.”

Jim:  in re politicians turning into rock stars, haven’t Clinton and Kerry both jammed in public?  Come to think of it, Harry Truman would play piano pieces for visitors to his presidential library, but he gets a pass for yet another fine joke that he used to tell after the performance (just not in mixed company) - “People always told me that when I grew up I’d either be a politician or a piano player in a whorehouse.  And to tell you the truth, there’s really not much difference.”

MDF:  welcome back.  You’re right about the kids.  In fact, with the annoying trend of recycling other people’s riffs in hip-hop remakes, one gets ridiculous vignettes.  I used to work the scoreboard at a roller hockey rink, and I was forever told that my choices of bumper music were sorely lacking.  Direct quote:  “If Santana is so great, why weren’t they at Woodstock?”  Instead of spitting, I told them to bring in their own stuff.  It turns out that the opening fifteen seconds of Steely Dan’s “Black Cow” is horrible until stolen and mumbled over by some rap ‘artist’ for five minutes. (This must also explain why Carlos Santana is suddenly cool again.)

Bottom line…there are enough fellow morons out there for Alice Cooper to be properly worried.  If it’s hip they’re there, until it isn’t hip any more, and then it’s off to the next trend.  A good majority of people ride the roller coaster for 10 or 15 years, and then realize that they like what they like, and a fig for other people’s approval of it; the others cling to what’s left of the herd and let the opinions of the bell-wearers shove them along.  Some go into entertainment or politics if they’re pretty enough - they get to wear the bells, so it’s an appealing gig.  (In the end, they need followers just as much as the followers need them.)

I was shocked to read they even have rifle ranges left in France, much less have to have permits.   Maybe the place isn’t as far gone as we feared.

Naman, welcome! Hope we have been treating you right.  Texas is honored to have you on her soil.   Always room here for folk who believe in working hard, standing on their own feet, and protecting what is theirs.

Being Texan is a state of mind.  Plenty of room frogman, plenty of room.
