Since you're probably into reading material of all sorts (considering that I don't publish much tits and ass here, you ought to come around for something else) maybe you'll be interested to learn that some of my stuff made its way to the real, tangible world of bricks, mortar and dead trees lately.

First, a few months ago, one of my 2003 photos of the Millenium Bridge in London made it as a cover illustration of the German edition of Bridging Science and religion, translated from the American by Tina Bruns, and published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht.

No, I have no idea what the book is about. No more than I know what "Umschlagabbildung" means on the credits page, right where it reads "Umschlagabbildung Millenium Bridge, London © www.thedissidentfrogman.com/london".

But that's a heck of a long word. Small wonder then that the Germans are so big on the whole ecologism thing. I mean, when you look at their written language, these guys probably wipe out half of the rainforest every time they write their Christmas letter to Granny, so I guess they join Greenpeace en masse out of guilt.

Still, Tina Bruns was very nice (Hello Tina) and I'm quite happy with how they used my photo anyway.

Next, and this is quite fresh, I was commissioned by these guys to create a photomontage to be used on the cover of Eugene Schlanger's - AKA the Wall Street Poet - September 11 Wall Street Sonnets and Other New York City Poems, published by Editions Underbahn. The said photomontage being that Statue of Liberty holding the World Trade Center on her torch, in lieu of the eponymous flame.

I hear that Eugene Schlanger, when he saw it, said that this idea was "a stroke of genius" - and coming from such a master in articulating emotions, I believe this is one of the most valued compliments I've ever received.

I'm really honored and excited for that (undoubtedly minor) contribution I've made to his book. First and foremost, because it's about New York and September 11, and about paying homage in a sort of classical Greek way - therefore totally Western - to those we lost on that day of the war.

Moreover, it's a bilingual edition - which gives me another reason to enjoy it, considering my own interest for this publication mode on this very blog. Knowing how tricky it can be to translate my own writing either from French to English or English to French while keeping both sides readable, I have nothing but praises for Sabrina Kherbiche who masterfully translated Eugene Schlanger's sonnets to French.

You can order the book on the editor's site. For the ridiculous sum of US$22.00 (including shipping), you'll get the Wall Street Poet's oeuvre, plus a genuine print of the dissident frogman. It's a deal, it's a steal... No, I was dully paid for my work, and I'm not getting any percentage on the sales. Glad you asked.

Finally, another of my graphics will go on print somewhere around the University of Texas, but I can't tell you more about this at the moment since the book has not been published yet, and I have high standards when it comes to the non-disclosure policy that's part of my work ethics.

Pompous, but true.

And if you're into French reading material, Editions Underbahn has quite a few other things that might be of interest to you. Starting with Erik Svane's book on French anti-Americanism. Otherwise, if you're not into French reading material, there's a bunch of computer wallpapers to grab... Plus a soon to be released Vietnamese version of Orwell's 1984 (Now that's what I'd call a kickass concept)

Sorry, can't tell you much about Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht's catalogue. I'm just beginning to get the hang on German. Umschlagabbildung. Umschlagabbildung.

Comme vous êtes probablement dans la lecture en tout genre (considérant que je ne publie que rarement de la fesse et du téton, vous devez forcément venir ici pour quelque chose d'autre) vous serez peut être intéressés d'apprendre que certaines de mes productions ont franchi la frontière avec le monde réel ces derniers temps.

Tout d'abord, il y a quelques mois, l'une de mes photos du Millenium Bridge de Londres en 2003 a servi d'illustration de couverture pour l'édition allemande de Bridging Science and religion, traduit de l'américain par Tina Bruns, et publié par Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht.

Quoiqu'il en soit, Tina Bruns est très sympa (Salut Tina) et je suis plutôt satisfait de la façon dont ils ont utilisé ma photo.

Ensuite, et c'est tout récent, ces gars là m'ont passé commande d'un photomontage pour la couverture de Wall Street Sonnets du 11 septembre et autres poèmes new-yorkais, par Eugene Schlanger - alias the Wall Street Poet - publié par Editions Underbahn. Le photomontage en question étant cette Statue de la Liberté qui porte le World Trade Center sur sa torche, en lieu et place de la flamme éponyme.

J'ai appris que Eugene Schlanger, lorsqu'il a vu l'image, a qualifié l'idée de "trait de génie" ce qui, venant d'un tel maître dans l'articulation des émotions, demeurera certainement l'un des plus précieux compliments qu'il m'ait été donné de recevoir.

Je suis réellement très enthousiaste et honoré de ma contribution (très modeste, c'est entendu) à son livre. D'abord et surtout parce que cela concerne New York et le 11 Septembre, et parce que c'est un hommage rendu à ceux que nous avons perdus en ce jour de guerre, d'une manière évocatrice de la Grèce classique - et en conséquence, typiquement occidentale.

C'est de plus une édition bilingue - ce qui me donne une raison supplémentaire de l'apprécier, considérant mon propre intérêt pour ce mode de publication sur ce blog. Sachant combien il peut être ardu de traduire mes propres écrits du français à l'anglais ou de l'anglais au français tout en gardant les deux côtés lisibles, je ne peux que louer le travail magistral de Sabrina Kherbiche qui a traduit les sonnets d'Eugene Schlanger en français.

Finalement, un autre de mes cyber-crobars va aller sous presses du côté de l'Université du Texas, mais je ne puis vous en dire plus pour l'instant sachant que ce livre là n'a pas encore été publié et que j'ai des standards élevés lorsqu'il s'agit de la politique de confidentialité qui constitue partie de mon éthique de travail.

Et si vous faites dans la lecture en français, les Editions Underbahn ont deux ou trois trucs qui peuvent vous attirer. Notamment le livre d'Erik Svane sur l'antiaméricanisme français. Autrement, si vous ne faites pas dans la lecture française, il y a toujours quelques fonds d'écrans à ramasser... Et une version vietnamienne du 1984 d'Orwell à sortir prochainement (Alors là, c'est le concept qui tue)
