Merde in France is reporting on the televisual gesticulations of our former top Secret Weapon of the French Diplomacy operative, Hubert "Open Wide" Vedrine:
As Jean-François Revel (one of the few French Academician not totally asleep) pointed out in his last book («The anti-American obsession, its functioning, its causes, its inconsistencies») Hubby Darling wins the Dumb Bunny Award on this one:
It's no big surprise the post-68 Left totally ruined the quality of the public (and private) education in my country.
He deserves to be saved.

Védrine's most notable accomplishment is the coining of the word 'hyperpower' which he created not so much to describe the United States, but rather to be able to continue calling France a 'superpower'. Yes, the French really are that vain.Not only vain, but also terribly uneducated...

Regarding the word "superpower" as too weak and banal, Hubert Védrine, french Foreign Affairs minister in the "allied Left" government choose in 1998 to use the "hyperpower" neologism which, according to him, is stronger and describes better the prevailing US hegemony in the world.So when W . wonders if Hubby Darling's neologism is to be accepted by the French Academy, I'm pretty sure about the position of - at least - one of its members on that issue.
One fails to see why it would be better or stronger, since the Greek prefix "hyper" has exactly the same meaning as the Latin prefix "super".

Sidenote
Jean-François Revel's book, "L'Obsession Anti-Americaine" should (hopefully) be translated to English. If, in the manner of Abram's bargain with God about Sodom, you want to find 10 righteous fellows, read this book [it casts a serious, documented and accurate light on the nature of the french anti-Americanism] and add Mr. Revel on top of the list.He deserves to be saved.

Le summum de la carrière de Védrine a eu lieu au moment où il a créé le mot 'hyperpuissance'. Il a créé le mot, non pas pour décrire les Etats-unis, mais plutôt afin de continuer à appeler la France une 'superpuissance'. Le mot superpuissance lui paraissant trop faible et trop banal, Hubert Védrine, ministre des Affaires étrangères français dans le gouvernement de la "gauche plurielle", y substitua en 1998 le néologisme d'«hyperpuissance»,plus fort et convenant mieux, selon lui à l'hégémonie actuelle des Etats-Unis dans le monde.Quand W . s'interroge concernant l'acceptation du Néologisme à Bebert par l'Académie Française, je suis pour ma part, à peu près certain de la position - d'au moins - un de ses membres sur la question.
On ne voit pas très bien en quoi, puisque le préfixe grec "hyper" a exactement le même sens que le préfixe latin "super".

Une parenthèse
Le livre de Jean-François Revel, "L'Obsession antiaméricaine, son fonctionnement, ses causes, ses inconséquences" est paru chez Plon. J'en conseille amicalement la lecture à tous ceux de mes compatriotes qui sont encore capables de faire preuve d'un minimum de discernement et de liberté d'opinion et de réflexion. Les autres peuvent continuer à gober (et propager) les mensonges éhontés des medias de masse et la désinformation orchestrée par les "élites" qui les gouvernent. A l'heure de l'Internet et d'un accès général à des sources variées d'information grandement facilité, leur paresse intellectuelle ne trouve aucune excuse (autre que le relatif confort d'un endoctrinement volontaire. Mais ça... c'est pas une excuse)
